Dorothy Mae Peturson passed away in Salmon Arm at the age of 87 at Bastion Place after battling bravely against the cruelty of terminal cancer, succumbing in the early hours of December 21, 2024.
She was an angel to all who knew her, her charity knew no limits; a legacy built through altruistic beauty and grace. She is lovingly remembered by her family and all who had the fortune to know her and be touched by her kindness and generosity.
Dorothy was born in Nanaimo BC and is survived by her three children and sister Linda. She was married to Don Peturson who passed away in 2016.
Dorothy was a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and awaits the day she will be reunited with her Lord and everyone she loved.
Per her request, no funeral service has been arranged. Hers was a life of humility dedicated to the service of others, and it was her wish that you continue her legacy and help others in need in remembrance of her.
The Family wishes to send a thank you to the staff and residents of Arbor Lodge for providing her a period of happiness prior to her diagnosis, the McAnally’s (Don & Myrna) for their support during such a difficult time, the staff at Shusawp Lake General Hospital, the staff at Bastion Place, and all who came to wish her well through her journey in the final moments of her life.
For My Mother
By Dwayne Peturson - completed January 2016
Dear Mother,
It would take all my lifetime to repay
the kindness you've given unselfishly.
I find it hard to express and to say
the words within my heart you cannot see. But I will try.
Though words went unspoken when you were near
and times that I've not found the time to call
There is no person else I hold so dear;
Whose tender light, to me, outshines them all. So this is why,
As I grow old and see how others are
I know I'm blessed with the greatest gift who
Is an example brighter than a star.
My only wish is to live up to you. Until the day I die,
You will be my most profound influence,
and I will be grateful like no other
for the fortune to meet you and be blessed
that I spent life with you as my mother.
With love eternally,
Your son.
…In the garden of mothers, you will always be the most beautiful flower…
