Doreen Olson Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Doreen Olson (Akeroyd) announces her passing on June 7, 2021, in her hometown of Salmon Arm, BC, at the age of 84.  She is survived by her sons Grant (Irene), Craig (Deb), and Derek (Cheryl); her sister Marian (George); grandchildren Alexandra, Sarah, and Connor; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by Carlton, her husband of 55 years, in 2015.

Doreen was born and raised in Salmon Arm, and attended teacher training college in Victoria, BC, after graduating from high school.  She began her teaching career working in Maple Ridge and Kimberley, BC, before moving to New Westminster and working for the Burnaby School District.  It was there that she met Carlton, and they married (on her birthday) in 1960.  For the next 35 years they lived in Coquitlam, BC, and Doreen focused on raising their three sons and keeping the busy household functioning.  She also ran her own home-based floral business, specializing in fresh and dried flower arrangements for special occasions.

After retiring, together Doreen and Carlton built their dream home in Gleneden (just outside of Salmon Arm), and moved there in 1995.  In retirement, Doreen enjoyed gardening, cooking, and entertaining visiting family.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Andover Terrace Seniors Community in Salmon Arm for providing a caring, comfortable, and safe home for Doreen in her final years.

As per Doreen's wishes, no memorial service will be held.
