With love and sadness, we announce the passing of Donald Wayne Phillips on August 16, 2025, in Salmon Arm, BC, at the age of 78.
Born in Edmonton and raised in Kamloops, Don spent most of his life in Campbell River, where he raised his family. Many memories were made camping and waterskiing at the lake. Don was an owner/operator of an ESSO (3SSO as he liked to call it) service station before spending most of his career as a heavy-duty mechanic working up and down the coast in the forestry industry. Don always expressed how fortunate he was to truly love his profession. He enjoyed the challenge of repairing heavy machinery and was very respected in his ability to do so.
In 2013, Don moved to Salmon Arm to be closer to family — a decision he truly treasured. There, he spent quality time with his daughter, Erinn, and grandchildren, Kate, Lys, and Ben, teaching them how to play backgammon, listening to their stories, and enjoying the simple joy of being present in their lives. He also took pride in sharing his mechanical knowledge with his son-in-law, Gregor. Don was always up to date with current events, enjoying any chance to discuss what was going on with those around him. Don was able to travel to Edmonton to visit his son, Kevin, and grandchildren, Dylin, Hayden, and Logan, speaking with pride about Kevin’s choice to follow in his footsteps as a tradesperson.
Don is lovingly remembered by his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Rita; his brother, Darrell; and sister, Dianne. He is survived by his sister, Deena.
A private family gathering will be held.
