Devyn Helena Gale, 19, of Revelstoke, BC passed away suddenly in a workplace accident while actioning a small fire near Hiren Creek just north of her hometown.
Devyn, or “Dev”, was born at Langley Memorial Hospital on November 24th, 2003, to parents Graham and Philomena and older brother Nolan. In July of 2005, shortly after her younger sister Kayln was born, her family moved to Revelstoke. Devyn was a hard working and capable student at Mountain View Elementary, Begbie View Elementary, and Revelstoke Secondary School in Revelstoke. Since her high school graduation, she had been splitting her time between Revelstoke and Kelowna BC, where she had competed her second year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the University of British Columbia.
Growing up Devyn’s interests included competitive swimming and skiing with her family, but her main passion was training and competing in trampoline gymnastics with the Revelstoke Acrobatics Trampoline Club. From an early age she established herself as a top competitor in the province and in 2020 she qualified for the Elite Canada 2020 National Championship competition in Longueuil, Quebec.
Devyn brought a lot of joy to her family and her grit, integrity, and passion to grow made it easy to find pride in her. Her nurturing, kind, and sincere nature was quick to win over the hearts of the many people she was connected to as well as the patients she cared for in her short time as a student nurse. Respectful and proper at the first encounter, Devyn also had a mischievous and goofy side – full of pranks, wacky handshakes, and bad singing – that not everyone had the privilege to see.
Devyn is survived by her immediate family, as well has her maternal grandparents Anna and David Chang of Surrey, BC and her paternal grandparents Kelly and Alva Gale of Revelstoke. She will be missed by her cousins Kyle, Alyssa, Shae and Sean Chang of Surrey BC and their parents Percival Chang and Lorena Lee. She will also be missed by her cousins Nathan and Joshua Gale and their parents Jeremy and Shannon Gale of Revelstoke. In addition, Devyn leaves behind her Aunt Lindsay Gale of Vancouver, her Aunt Pascalina Chang of Surrey, and a large community of friends, colleagues, and classmates.
In lieu of flowers her family suggests a donation be made the Revelstoke Community Foundation (info@revelstokecommunityfoundation.com) in Devyn’s name.
A Celebration of Devyn’s Life will be held at the Revelstoke Senior Secondary School Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, July 22nd, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. A Procession of Firefighters will precede the service, starting at 12:45 p.m. from The Revelstoke Fire Hall to the School. The community is encouraged to stand along the route to support the firefighters and Devyn’s family.
