With heavy hearts, the family of Davin Dunn said goodbye to their beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather on January 28, 2026, just two days after his 86th birthday.
Davin Allen Dunn was born on January 26, 1940, in Nelson, B.C. He spent his early years on the family farm in Saskatchewan while his father was overseas serving in the Second World War. After his father’s return, Davin attended school in both Nelson and Cranbrook.
As a young man, Davin headed to the coast to work in logging before eventually beginning a carpentry apprenticeship. He had a lifelong love of working with wood and took great pride in craftsmanship.
On December 26, 1969, Davin married the love of his life, Davene. Together they shared 56 years of marriage and raised five children: Rod, Roberta, Brian, Pam, and Shawna.
Davin and Davene purchased Golden Protection Agencies Ltd., operating the business for 25 years as a real estate, insurance, notary public, and travel agency. More recently, they operated a property investment and management company. Over the years, Davin was also involved in several other ventures, including a stationery store, an ice business, and engraving and trophy sales.
The outdoors played a central role in Davin’s life. He spent countless hours hunting, fishing, and camping, finding peace, meaning in nature, and maintaining a deep spiritual connection to his Creator. One of the great highlights of his life was hunting in the remote wilderness of the Yukon.
Davin devoted many years to the development and improvement of the Rod & Gun Club ranges. An accomplished and award-winning sharpshooter, he earned numerous trophies, including titles at the Western Canadian Championship and the B.C. Summer Games.
He had a lifelong love of animals and shared his life with many cherished pets. His last loyal companion, Flicka, passed away just days before Davin.
A student of history, Davin was an avid reader who particularly loved poetry and often quoted it from memory.
Davin was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie and Allen Dunn; his sister, Delores Nelson; and his grandson, Michael Oddy.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Davene; his children Rod Dunn, Roberta (Cole) Altenhofen, Brian Dunn, Pamela Bruin, Shawna (Aaron) Elle, and son-in-law Charlie Mitchell; his granddaughters Ashley (Ben) Arlt, Michaela Dunn (Charlie) Kimber, Carrington Mitchell, Sydney Mitchell, Sienna Mitchell, and Jordan Altenhofen; and his cherished great-granddaughter, Rory Arlt.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Golden & District General Hospital toward the purchase of a portable ultrasound machine.
