David Simmonds Bateman was born May 31, 1931 in Farnborough, Great Britain.
David graduated from Redding University and traveled around much of Europe by motorcycle.
David emigrated to Canada in 1952 working in Smithers then moving down to the lower mainland in agriculture marketing and sales.
After marrying he moved his young family to White Lake in 1960 to take up farming. After the passing of his first wife Poppy, David married Lenore and later on he took over managing the Tappen Co-op from 1969–1978.
In 1978 David and Lenore bought a ranch in Bridesville and David became a full-time rancher. During this time, he enjoyed being a member of the local Kettle River Lion’s Club as well as a board member of the BC Livestock Association.
After selling the ranch in 2006, David and Lenore separated, and David moved back to Salmon Arm to enjoy retirement with trips to England, Australia and Africa. He was also an avid golfer, square dancer, yoga practitioner and volunteer at the Haney Heritage Park. David was also a member of the Salmon Arm Probus Club.
David passed away Saturday November 29th while in the care of Doctors and Nursing Staff at the Salmon Arm Hospital.
