Darlynne Vera Louise McKenna, daughter to Margaret Braid, Per Larson, and the late James Braid, younger sister to Chad and her late brother Derrick Larsen and older sister to Andrea, wife to Steve, mother to Aurora Britta and Landen James, passed away on Thursday October 16th, 2025 at 11:58 am. Born in Matsqui and raised in Terrace, BC, Darlynne graduated high school and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UNBC.
On her twenty-first birthday, Darlynne met the love of her life, Steve, in Vancouver. Darlynne travelled to England a few months later to be with Steve, traveling around Europe experiencing many wonderful adventures, creating memories and stories she would cherish and share for years to come. The two eventually returned to Canada and wed, living briefly in Quesnel and Calgary where they bought their first home together before moving to Salmon Arm where they had their first child, Aurora, and two years later, the happy surprise of their second child, Landen. Married to Steve for twenty-three wonderful years, Darlynne filled her family’s lives with love, laughter, and light. Their home was full of joy thanks to her unequaled ability to make every moment special and make everyone feel seen and loved.
Darlynne’s greatest joy was her family. She was the most loving and devoted mother to Aurora and Landen, pouring her whole heart into everything she did for them. Whether helping with Aurora’s 4H club, cheering Landen on at swim meets, or training her beloved pup, Echo, for dog agility, she was always there, supportive, proud, and endlessly encouraging. Her love for her family was her driving force, and it showed in every smile, hug, and conversation. Her friends were family; she was always there for them, and them for her. This rare and special bond is a true reflection of her beautiful heart. Everyone who crossed Darlynne’s path left a better person through her compassion, her thoughtfulness, and her fierce passion for ensuring everyone she came across felt loved.
Darlynne was a Certified Financial Planner, a career she loved and approached with care, compassion, and integrity. Whether working with clients or volunteering in the community, she touched the lives of everyone she met with her warmth, kindness, and unfaltering support. Volunteering was very important to Darlynne, helping in any ways she could. From Coldest Night of the Year to collecting for the women’s shelter, the food bank and many other charities, Darlynne was always more than willing to put in all her effort to help others. In 2024, she participated in Dancing with the Shuswap Stars, raising thousands of dollars for Shuswap Hospice while simultaneously putting on a fun, upbeat and energetic performance, no surprise to any who were blessed enough to know her.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and love her.
All who loved Darlynne are welcome to come pay their respects and share memories at a come and go reception at Elks Hall, November 15, 1-3pm. and enjoy some light refreshments. In lieu of flowers, the family request you make a donation in Darlynne’s memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC or the Canadian Cancer Society.
