Daniel (Dan) Duggan Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Dan Duggan announces his peaceful passing at Mount Ida Mews on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the age of 97 years.

Dan was born on May 3, 1929, to Harry and Mary Duggan in Fenelon Falls, Ontario. He grew up on the family farm, surrounded by the values of hard work, kindness, and faith that would guide him throughout his life. In 1950, he left the farm to travel west, eventually settling in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. There he enjoyed a successful 42-year career in real estate and, in 1970, proudly served one term as Mayor of Salmon Arm.

Dan will be lovingly remembered for his quiet strength, gentle nature, the friendships he nurtured over the years and of course, his signature navy suits! He found great joy in serving his clients, spending time with members of his church, and giving back to the community of Salmon Arm that he proudly called home. His wisdom, sense of humour, and caring heart touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dan will be deeply missed by his sisters, Patricia Koenig of London, Ontario, and Elaine Connolly of Red Deer, Alberta; his dear friends, the Froess family; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Though Dan never married, he cherished the close relationships he shared with his nieces and nephews and remained a loving, supportive presence in their lives throughout the years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Mary Duggan; his five brothers, John, Patrick, Henry, Charlie, and Bill; his five sisters, Elizabeth, Marie, Josephine, Helen, and Betty; his sisters-in-law, Marg, Dolores, and Laurine; his brothers-in-law, Pat, Ed, and Bill; his nieces, Angela, Eileen and Karey, nephew Bobby and his great-nephews, Jacob and Cody.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dave Froess and his family whose friendship, compassion, and devoted care meant the world to Dan and brought great comfort to his family. They also extend their sincere appreciation to the compassionate staff at Mount Ida Mews and Shuswap Lodge for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they provided to Dan throughout his time there.

A viewing will be held at Bowers Funeral Home on July 21 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on July 22 at 11:30 am followed by interment at Mount Ida Cemetery. A reception will follow to celebrate Dan's life in St. Joseph's parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Dan’s memory.
