On Monday October 20th 2025, after a courageous five year battle with cancer Cynthia Anne Penno (Cindy) passed away with her family at her side.
Cindy was born on July 8, 1955 in Fort William, Ontario, to Allan and Grace Penno. The family moved to Donald, BC, in 1966 and settled on their Blaeberry Farm the following year.
Cindy built her life in the Blaeberry, raising two children with strength, independence, and the loving support of close family and friends. She had a deep love and appreciation for animals—especially her horses. Cindy was also inspired by Native culture, which shone through in her creativity and artwork.
On May 10, 2008, Cindy married Dr. Micheal Peterson, at their home on Kettleston Road, where together they created a beautiful farm filled with many dogs and horses over the years. Cindy and Micheal shared a love for animals and worked together at Columbia Veterinary Services in Golden B.C. They also took part in horse endurance rides across BC, Alberta, and the U.S., where Cindy rode and Micheal provided veterinary support.
Cindy will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband Micheal; her children Justin (Deanna) and Shelby (James); and her grandchildren Olivia and Wyatt. She is also survived by her parents Allan and Grace Penno, her siblings Melanie Wortley (Paul), Mike Penno (Margaret), and Kurt Penno (Susan), and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. She was predeceased by her sister Nancy Lambert.
A small family gathering will be held at a later date.
