Bryce Masuk Obituary

Bryce lived his life on his own terms and chose MAID to leave this earth at the age of 39 after enduring several years suffering from ALS. He invested countless hours researching this terrible disease and tried many different therapies but could not overcome the relentless progress of ALS.

Deeply missed by his mother Theo, and partner Greg, father David, brother Cameron, sister Shayla and son James and his mother Amy and in-laws John and Val. Also missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins from BC, the Prairies, Ontario and California. Bryce is remembered by special friends Zach and Ryan and cousin Dustin. He had many friends in the Lower Mainland and co-workers from his business Masuk Metal Design in Mission. His will to endure the last 18 months of his life was greatly enhanced by Kali who gave him unconditional love and care throughout his decline.

Bryce was fortunate to have a collective of generous and compassionate caregivers during his illness that he regularly shared his interests in politics, the environment, and the state of the world to mutual delight. The family is grateful for the constant support provided by Copper Island and Interior Health and for the provision of essential equipment by the ALS Society. Special thanks go out to Dr. Gilbank for her support and assistance.

Bryce leaves a wonderful legacy through his beloved son James, the light of his life, who shares his curiosity and zest for knowledge. He also leaves esthetic treasures of hand forged metal creations during his years as an artistic welder, including balcony railings at the iconic Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver which his father Dave, who shared his welding talents, had created years before. As his body shut down, Bryce’s natural intelligence and thirst for knowledge never waned. He continued to research write and read while greatly restricted in mobility.

A celebration of Bryce’s life will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bryce’s memory to the ALS Society of BC or a contribution to James’ education fund( contact the family for details).

Rest in Peace, dear Bryce. You will always be loved and missed.
