It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brian Frederick Thurgood,
a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend to so many.
Brian was born on October 25, 1947, to Fred and Donna Thurgood. He will be forever missed by the love
of his life, Colleen, and their two daughters, Andrea (Michael) and Elise (Olly). He was a proud and
devoted grandfather to Owen, Aspyn, Cohen, and Ross. Brian is also survived by his sister Betsi (Murray),
his many cherished nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by his brother Rob.
Brian had a zest for life like no other. He loved his family and friends fiercely, and his deep love for
music and his Maritime roots shaped much of who he was. He cherished time spent on the Mira River in Cape Breton,
surrounded by his aunts and cousins, creating memories that stayed with him for a lifetime. Known for his sharp wit—
often so quick it would leave others catching up—Brian could always bring laughter to a room.
After a long and successful career in law, Brian and Colleen retired to their cherished summer home at Shandy Cove in
Sicamous, where they spent countless days surrounded by friends, stories, and memories. Brian especially loved his
Saturdays at the Legion jam sessions, where music and community came together in a way that meant so much to him.
For nearly 20 years, Brian also volunteered with the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival, dedicating endless hours to
ensure his crew ran seamlessly. The festival was one of his favourite times of the year, combining his passion for music
with his commitment to community and friendship.
Brian's presence, warmth, and humour will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on through his grandchildren, his
family, the memories he created, and the people whose lives he touched.
While Brian was in the hospital, Colleen stayed at JoAnna’s House, a home-away-from-home for families with loved ones
receiving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to JoAnna’s House in Brian’s memory at joeannashouse@kghfoundation.com.
