It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Lou Abbott (Nee Underhill), born September 19, 1939 in Simcoe, Ontario, who passed away peacefully in Revelstoke, British Columbia at the age of 85. Betty Lou lived a life filled with simple joys, laughter, and unwavering love, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and cherished memories.
Betty's childhood was spent on the family’s farm, where she grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. She was one of thirteen siblings, six brothers and six sisters. These formative years instilled in her a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family values.
In 1966, Betty embarked on a new chapter of her life, taking a leap of faith and boarding a train with a hopeful heart. Her journey led her to Revelstoke, British Columbia. It was here she would marry Bud and raise a family that would be her greatest joy. She would call Revelstoke home for the remainder of her years.
Known for her sharp wit and thoughtful gestures, Betty Lou possessed an incredible memory, never forgetting a birthday and always selecting the perfect, often hilarious, card. She had a zest for life and a passion for embracing new experiences. From camping under the stars and casting a line for a fish, to the thrill of snowmobiling, playing bingo and the quiet satisfaction of tending her garden, Betty Lou found joy in the simple pleasures of life. The coffee was always on, and there was always a seat at her table, ready for a friendly chat and a shared laugh. She was also a skilled card player, delighting in friendly competition. She took pride in preserving the bounty of her garden through canning. Even in her 80’s she enjoyed riding a quad in the backcountry.
Predeceased by her loving husband, David (Bud) Abbott, Betty Lou leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold her in their hearts. She was the cherished mother of Betty (Frank) Donato, Robert Bowerman, and Allan (Christa) Bowerman. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Karrie (Scott) Donato, Crystal Donato, Cole (Courtney) Bowerman, and Christopher Bowerman, and her great-grandchildren, Devyn Maddison, Rylee Maddison, Logan Skalicky, Hazey Skalicky, and Vawn Skalicky. Her longtime best friends Fran and Joan, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Betty’s spirit of adventure, her unwavering love for her family, and her ability to find joy in every day will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched. May she rest in peace.
