Barbara Meier Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved sister Barbara. She had a great sense of humour and was always ready with a loving smile or a quick quip to lighten the mood. Though her sudden passing was a shock, we are thankful that she passed quickly and peacefully.

Barb was born in Vancouver, the oldest of 4 children. In 1964, the family moved to Revelstoke, where she finished high school in 1965. After graduation, she attended UBC for several years, worked in the family drugstore and at various other jobs, and in 1975 graduated as a registered Lab Technologist (Cytotechnology). She worked at the BC Cancer Agency from 1975 until an accident to her eyesight in 2001 forced her to take early retirement. At the time of her leaving, she was assistant chief technologist in the lab.

Though she spent most of her life in Vancouver, in 2016 Barb moved to Salmon Arm to be closer to family. For the last 9 years she has enjoyed living at Piccadilly Terrace and we are thankful to the staff there for all their kindness to Barb over the years.

Barb was a gifted artist, especially in bookbinding, printmaking, collage, multi-colour abstract ink drawings, and photography. She loved to travel, especially to the UK and Ireland. Barb was an avid reader, a demon at Scrabble, and she enjoyed Film Society movies.

Barb was predeceased by her parents Joel and Margery (English) Meier. She is survived by her siblings Bev (Nat) Moore in N. Ireland, Noelle (Keith) Cox in Salmon Arm and Don (Tracy) Meier in Lake Country, as well as niece and nephews Jen (Tony) Price, Graham Cox and Josh (Jess) Meier, grand-niece and -nephew Charlotte and Sam Price and many cousins and friends. She was a dedicated daughter, sister, cousin, auntie and friend. Her heartfelt compassion and genuine affection for those close to her will be truly missed.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held in the near future.
