Mr. Meinard John Stomp passed away in Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm, BC on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the age of 93 years.
    A celebration of life service for the late John Stomp will be held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm, on Saturday afternoon, July 3rd, at 3 p.m. with Jack Bowers the funeral celebrant. Catherine Kroetch will provide music with honors being presented by comrades of the Royal Canadian Legion.
    Interment will follow in the family plot at Mt. Ida Cemetery, with a reception back in the Mountainside room at Bowers, allowing time for family and friends to continue sharing memories.
    Born in Muenster, Saskatchewan on February 3, 1917 to John and Crescenta Stomp. He served overseas for 3 years during WW 11 with the Royal Canadian Artillery. After the war John settled in Winnipeg to work for CN Railway, express trucking division, retiring to the Shuswap in 1977. He is well remembered for his kindness in community work, the legion, and love for hunting, fishing and card playing.
    Predeceased by his parents; sisters, Viola, Anne and Mary; brothers, Albert and Art; his first wife, Doris Verhaeghe, second wife, Alfrida Zabel, and his daughter, Ruth Fisher in 1979.
    John is survived by his son, Jim (Laurie) of Millarville, Alberta, granddaughter, Willa (Dave), great grandsons, Evan and Michael; granddaughter, Sherrie (Shane), and great granddaughters, Danica and Emily.
     In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of John may be sent to the Shuswap Hospital Foundation, PO Box 265, Salmon Arm, BC VIE 4N3
