November  14, 1941 – May 20, 2010

It  is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ashley Hubensky on May 20, 2010 at the Shuswap Lake General  Hospital with his partner Crystal and best  friends  Marvin and Vickie Knight and Sharon Anchikoski, at his side.   He fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past 7 months.

Ashley leaves behind to mourn his  loving, long time partner of 28 years , Crystal Bowman;  son, Darrin Grafton (Sue) and grand- daughters, Teagan and Justine; step- son,  Chris Bowman (Darlene) and step-grand children, Kelsey and Dillon; step-daughter , Tracy Bowman (Brian) and step-grand-daughters, Dezerea and Shaelynn ; sister, Dianna Chalmers; nieces,  Suzie and  Wanda (Joe) and great nieces , Caitlin and Taylor;    uncles, Stanley  and Russell (Mary) Hubensky ; aunts, Colleen Cowell, Stella Hyra, Eleanor Powell  and Marie Davidson ; and numerous cousins . Ashley was predeceased by his parents, Kaye and Alex Hubensky.

Ashley was born in Prince George and at approximately age 5, the family moved to Sardis, BC.  In the mid 50’s the family then moved to Mara BC where Ashley finished his schooling at Enderby, BC.  He lived in Vancouver for several  years,  where he got his certificate in barbering.  He moved back to the Okanagan and barbered in Enderby and finally back to Salmon Arm where he opened Ashleys’ Barber Shop.  After 30 years of barbering, he finally retired in 1997.  Ashley and Crystal lived on his mother’s homestead and helped take care of his mother’s farm raising Dexter Cattle and horses for 20 years.

Ashley loved to travel and did so extensively, visiting most every corner of the world.  After Crystal retired in 2007, they bought a travel trailer and their travelling bug started, first with a trip across Canada in 2008.  He loved life and people and was very family orientated.  Ashley will be greatly missed by family and his many, many friends.

A procession will depart Bowers Funeral Chapel, Saturday June 12, 2010 at 11:30 am to Mt. Ida Cemetery for an interment of Ashley’s urn.  A memorial tea will follow at the Grandview Bench Hall, Grandview Bench Road, Salmon Arm.   

The family would like to thank Dr. Hepburn, Dr. Main, Cheryl and the nursing staff at SLGH for their kind, compassionate and efficient care. 

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request that donations in Ashley’s name be made to the Shuswap Hospice Society.

It would be Ashley’s wish for people not to grieve, but rather to share a glass of wine or a beer,  a cherished  moment,  a laugh or two  in memory of him.  We will forever miss that smile and all his wonderful stories.  Ashley, you will forever be in our hearts.  Enjoy your new journey, till we meet again.
